Their North is a virtual exhibition of 12 works by artists whose lives are deeply rooted in northern Saskatchewan. The works in the exhibition are from the Permanent Collection of the Saskatchewan Arts Board, the largest collection of Saskatchewan art in the world. The works in Their North are by Bob Dalby,Ray Keighley, Angelique Merasty, Dave O’Hara, Anne Ratt and Annie Roberts. These six artists work in a variety of media, but what they have in common is their connection to northern Saskatchewan through subject matter (Bob Dalby and Dave O’Hara) and materials (for example, the rabbit skins in the mats created by Anne Ratt). Some of the artists (such as Angelique Merasty and Annie Roberts) work in unique traditions that are handed down from one generation to the next. This exhibition is an expression of the land, traditions and people of northern Saskatchewan. Like all art – whether it be traditional or contemporary – the works reflect the visions and traditions of the artists, and the times and places in which they were created.
