Pinehouse Lake
Our Community
Pinehouse, a village of over 900 people, is about 2.5 hours driving time from La Ronge and 1 hour from Beauval on gravel roads. This is a pretty community. Fishing and tourism industries provide employment for the people in this area. The town has a restaurant and gas station, church and government agencies. Hockey is a popular sport and Pinehouse has produced a number of excellent hockey players. Minahik Waskahigan School is located in Pinehouse. The school of 350 students has a vibrant educational program that is dedicated to providing the young people of the community with a well-rounded education. Our North
Culture Day was a project in which Pinehouse students learned from Yvonne Maurice and other Elders about many traditions in their community. Here’s what some of the students had to say:
“It is important to us to know more about the past and how things used to be in Pinehouse. When you talk to us, we know more and we understand more about who we are. It helps us to have a connection to our Elders and that is of lasting value. Maybe someday when we have grandchildren, we will tell them about the things you tell us.” Grade 10 class, Minahik Waskahigan School .
